Hammayoun Safi

I build complete products, from the database to the App Store.

Rails APIs, Vue and React web apps, Expo mobile apps on the App Store and Google Play, and the infrastructure under them. At work I build a multi-module HR and learning SaaS. On my own I built and launched Hatiwal, a local marketplace for Afghanistan in English, Pashto and Dari.

Principle

“I don’t build halfway. I start, and I finish.”

When I take on a product, I take all of it: the API, the web app, the mobile app, the tests, the deploy and the store release. Done means it works for real people, in their language, on their phone.
  • End-to-end ownership

Database to API, web, mobile, infrastructure and store release, and I keep maintaining it afterwards.

  • Tests are part of done

RSpec, Jest, Vitest, Playwright and Maestro. CI must pass before anything deploys.

  • Built for every language

English, Pashto, Dari, French, Arabic and Urdu, with real right-to-left layouts, native digits and calendars.

  • Owns the hard dependencies

When a hosted map provider broke my app, I self-hosted the map.

Hatiwal

Local marketplace for Afghanistan

Hatiwal home page: "Buy and sell locally in Afghanistan" with a search bar and product categories

Solo founder-developer · live since September 2026

Buy and sell near you, chat in the app, meet in person. No online payment and no delivery: it is built for how people actually trade locally, in English, Pashto and Dari with full right-to-left layouts.

Tested end to end before every release: Jest, Maestro flows on real devices, Playwright on the web.

Stack

  • Rails 8.1
  • PostgreSQL 16
  • Expo / React Native
  • Next.js 15
  • MapLibre
  • PMTiles
  • Kamal 2

What I built

  • Three apps on one Rails 8.1 API: an Expo / React Native app for iOS and Android, a separate Next.js 15 web app at feature parity, and an admin back office
  • Listings with holds and offers, reviews and seller trust, real-time chat, verified accounts and push notifications
  • A self-hosted vector map of Afghanistan (map.hatiwal.com): PMTiles, MapLibre and nginx, 16 light and dark styles in four languages, no third-party API key
  • Kamal 2 deploys on a VPS, nightly backups with restore tests, store releases with EAS

04About

About

I like doing things properly, start to finish. I own features end to end, from the data model to the screen people tap, and I don’t call them done until they’re tested, deployed and in users’ hands.

That is how Hatiwal went from an idea to the App Store and Google Play in English, Pashto and Dari, and how I work on a production SaaS every day. I build AI into products (RAG assistants, MCP servers) and work with AI coding agents under clear specs and strict test gates.
